Plant Lover

House plants are a great way to bring some life into your house and workspace! Adding a little succulent to your desk or a tall house tree to the corner of your living room adds texture to your space and opens up the room. Many people don't want to incorporate plants into their decor design because they are afraid they will kill them. Here are some quick tips to keep your plants alive!

Watering

Often times we kill our plants by killing them with kindness. Sometimes we water our plants too much. Get too know your plant. If you see that your plant's leaves are brown, crusty, or that the soil is hard and dry then you will want to give it some water love. If the soil is damp and soft and your plant is green and thriving then hold off on the water!

Here is a list of plants that thrive with a low maintenance watering schedule:

Snake plant

Water every 2-6 weeks, once the soil is dry it is time to water. No need to give it too much water.

Succulents and Cacti

Yellow and soggy leaves indicate over-watering.  Brown, dry leaves from the middle or top of your succulent indicate a need for water. Overall, check the top of the soil, if it feels crusty or dry then give it a water. I water my succulents every Sunday. Once a week is a good schedule to get on for succulents to keep them alive and well!

Air Plants

The best way to water air plants is to take them out of their display and fill a bowl or sink with water and float the air plants in the water for 20 minutes. This should be done once a week as well.

Fake Plants

YUP! The best way to add some plants into your life and not kill them is to get fake ones. There is nothing wrong with fake plants. They are a great source of decor and they require not work at all.

My favorite places to purchase fake plants:

> Amazon

> Target

> Tj Max/ Marshalls

> Afloral ( https://www.afloral.com/ ) - the best and most convincing fake plants and flowers.

> Urban Outfitters

> Wayfair

Other Plant related tips:

> House plants thrive in your bathroom! Something about the moisture and steam from the shower allows the plants to grow fast and vibrant.

> Hanging eucalyptus in the shower helps relive stress and makes your whole shower smell amazing.

> Designate one day a week as your watering day! I typically water all my plants on Sundays. The easiest way is to take them all to a sink, patio, or bathtub and give them all a gentle spray down of water.

> Spray bottles of water work great for watering. It's easy and leaves no mess.

> If you are away on vacation and don't have anyone to water your plants while you're away, fill a water bottle with water, leave the cap off, and quickly turn it upside down and push it a few inches into the soil. The water will slowly seep into the soil and keep it moist.

> To help save a plant from dying add some used coffee grounds to the soil and add an ice cube. The coffee grounds give nutrients to the soil and the ice cube will slowly melt and bring water and moisture.
